Cascade loses Joe Schuberg

Wed 20 Apr 2016
Joe Schuberg loved Cascade Ski Club. Cascade loved him. He was the heart of our club., manager and spiritual leader. We deeply mourn his untimely death. May you rest in peace, Joe.

When Joe Schuberg became manager of Cascade Ski Club, the club was just getting back on its feet. Cascade had just resolved a contentious legal battle with H Ski Corp, owners of Ski Bowl. With Joe on board Cascade thrived again. He was Mr. Cascade, the face of the club. For Joe the glass was always half full. He saw the good and minimized the bad.

An imposing yet gentle man, Joe had a way of making everyone feel at home. At the same time his wrestling physique dissuaded bad dudes. Joe never laid a hand on anyone...he simply crossed his arms. Troublemakers scurried away like rats in light.

Joe never worried. I asked him several times why. He just smiled. Joe simply enjoyed life and people.

Joe was smart and well travelled. Joe came to Cascade with several impressive endorsements including one from Arnold Schwarzenegger. He helped start a chain of heathclubs in Asia. In that role he met several celebrities including Michael Jackson and Bruce Springsteen. Clearly, Joe did not have to work for little Cascade Ski Club. He did so because he loved Cascade and every member. Joe embodied Cascade. He made Cascade a home. He was a big brother to me. I loved him. I'm crying now. Joe, Cascade will never be the same without you. Thank you for blessing Cascade with your presence. Richard Rizk
